I’m excited to report that Las Vegas Sands (LVS) and Beckham Ventures just announced a partnership which will see one of the world’s most iconic men, David Beckham, join forces with LVS’s powerful integrated resort properties in Macao and Singapore.
As outlined at a press conference held in Macao today, the partnership will be based around the development of dining, retail and leisure concepts at Sands China Ltd. properties in Macao and Marina Bay Sands in Singapore.
“We have billions of dollars invested in our own global, iconic brands and we clearly understand the importance of growing and sustaining those brands over time. The odds are extremely high that a partnership with David Beckham will help us further those efforts and provide David with the same benefit,” said Michael Leven, our company’s president and chief operating officer. “We are very excited about the partnership and we fully expect it to grow in the years to come, especially as we aggressively explore opportunities to further expand our presence in Asia.”
David Beckham said, “The Sands team has created amazing resorts in Singapore and Macao. The scale, vision and caliber in all that they do is impressive. I am very excited to be working with them to develop a range of new business ideas in a part of the world that I love spending time in and is full of optimism and growth.”
“Here in Macao, Sands China has worked to not only transform the tourism industry by providing a diverse set of entertainment offerings, but also by seeking out active engagement with renowned brands and providing a unique experience to the people in and around this area of the world when they visit Cotai Strip Resorts Macao,” said Edward Tracy, president and chief executive officer of Sands China Ltd. “David Beckham’s well-known personal values and his endeavors in both business development and community outreach make a perfect match for our two brands to come together in a way which is sure to positively impact the Asian market.”
“We’ve been fortunate enough to have David partner with us recently at Marina Bay Sands and the energy and enthusiasm his presence provides is captivating. He was involved in our very successful Sands for Singapore community festival and his participation was inspiring to the young people he met with as well as the local charities which benefitted from his generosity. We greatly look forward to further promoting our partnership with David in a variety of exciting and creative ways at Marina Bay Sands,” said George Tanasijevich, the property’s president and chief executive officer.

Our thoughts are with those who have been affected by Super Typhoon Haiyan as well as our team members who have family and friends in the region. Las Vegas Sands is showing its support for the Philippines in a variety of ways following the devastation caused by this terrible disaster. Financial assistance is being provided to the recovery efforts there by both our entities in Asia, Sands China Ltd. in Macao and Marina Bay Sands in Singapore. Additionally, through our existing partnership with Clean the World, LVS is funding the packaging and shipment of 40,000 hygiene kits which contain soap, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, toothbrush, toothpaste and washcloths, to the area as a means of preventing the spread of hygiene-related illness.

Travel 250 million years back in time. At The Venetian Macao, you can now come face to face with dinosaur models like you’ve never seen before. They breathe, they move, they make sounds. The closest thing in the world to seeing a live dinosaur.

In the ever-changing global environment, it is the duty of individuals and companies alike to protect Mother Earth. I’ve seen an increasing number of conversations among thought-leaders revolving around sustainability and green initiatives. It is no different here at Marina Bay Sands, with our global Sands Eco 360° program.
In conjunction with Sands Eco 360°, Marina Bay Sands hosted Sir Richard Branson, one of Forbes 2012 list of billionaires, the Founder and Chairman of Virgin Group of companies and the Carbon War Room. As a gateway to Asia, Singapore was chosen as the location for the inaugural Creating Climate Wealth Workshops Summit held at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre.
Topics pertaining to climate change and the economic opportunity for businesses to ‘do good’ were raised by Sir Richard Branson and a panel, which included George Tanasijevich, President and CEO of Marina Bay Sands, Peter Boyd [CEO] and Jose Maria Figueres [President] of Carbon War Room. Members of the media were present at the press conference held at the Sands SkyPark. Read more at Sir Richard Branson’s blog.
Marina Bay Sands has become the first event and conference venue outside the US to be certified under a new international sustainability standard in the MICE space. Earlier this year, we launched our Sands Eco 360° Meetings Program to provide environmentally preferable choices and options to meeting planners and clients.
In addition, Marina Bay Sands will continue to honour our commitment to our “I Will If You Will” WWF Earth Hour Pledge by turning off all non-essential façade lights and outdoor lighting for one hour each month for a year. I am proud to be part of a company that is committed to protect our environment with our long-term sustainability initiatives.

At the recent International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Weekend, The Venetian Macao was honored with a partner award for creating the Green IIFA sustainability program. While celebrating the talent and creativity of Indian Cinema–with fun-filled activities that gave fans the opportunity to meet their favorite stars–The Venetian Macao implemented an array of environmentally-friendly initiatives throughout the event.
Among the green initiatives were state-of-the art water flow controllers; advanced energy conserving technologies that monitored lights and air conditioning; and energy-efficient audio-visual equipment. The Venetian Macao also introduced a variety of organic, vegetarian and sustainable seafood items into the food menus, as well as carried out a mass recycling program (including soap recycling in partnership with Clean The World). Even the runway carpet that the film stars walked down was green—literally and figuratively—to represent our shared dedication to sustainability and healthy living.
In the end, these and other sustainability measures helped solidify The Venetian Macao as a leading green meetings venue in Asia.
Gene Capuano, the Venetian Macao vice-president of convention and exhibition operations, accepted the award and said he was grateful to the IIFA for their recognition. “Our entire operations team is on board with creating more environmentally responsible events for our clients,” he said. “Being able to educate and support them with these initiatives is of the utmost importance to us.”
The IIFA’s long-time commitment to sustainability, he said, made the award especially gratifying to receive.

Sands Cotai Strip Resorts will soon be home to the interactive and entertaining DreamWorks Experience, beginning July 1, 2013, as a result of the new relationship between Sands China Ltd. and the world famous DreamWorks Animation SKG, Inc. With this monumental move, Sands China is taking the lead to introduce a first-of-its-kind family fun destination to Macao in what the company believes will be a key factor in promoting the diversification of Macao’s tourism industry.
“All of us at DreamWorks Animation are excited to bring the DreamWorks Experience to this amazing integrated resort city,” said DreamWorks Animation’s Chief Executive Officer Jeffrey Katzenberg. “Cotai Strip Resorts has become a great destination for families and now it’s going to be even better!”
Supported by the Macau Government Tourist Office, the DreamWorks Experience at Cotai Strip Resorts is the result of a new resort licencing agreement between Sands China and DreamWorks Animation, bringing the global entertainment company’s well-known characters and franchises, such as Kung Fu Panda, How to Train Your Dragon, Shrek and Madagascar to events, shows and offerings throughout Cotai Strip Resorts on the properties of Sands Cotai Central and The Venetian Macao.
