Sands Cares: Clean the World Event

April 10th, 2014 | Ciara Matthews

Team members from The Venetian, Palazzo, and Sands Expo volunteered their time at Clean the World’s Las Vegas location last week by putting together nearly 2,000 hygiene kits that will be sent to underserved populations in our local communities and around the world. Las Vegas Sands has dedicated $1 million to Clean the World in 2014 as part of our new global corporate citizenship program, Sands Cares. Clean the World works diligently to collect and recycle discarded hygiene products from hospitality companies and distributes them to those in risk of life-threatening hygiene-related diseases, such as pneumonia, cholera and dysentery. Sheldon Adelson among 200 people who have had “the greatest influence.”

Las Vegas Sands Chairman Sheldon Adelson has always made “challenging the status quo” his fundamental business philosophy. For this reason, we are honored to learn that he has just been named to CNBC’s list of 200 people who have transformed business over the last 25 years, thus making him a contender for CNBC First 25.

Those on the list are described as “top leaders, icons and rebels, a definitive list of people who have had the greatest influence, sparked the biggest changes and caused the most disruption in business over the past quarter century.”

They further say: “This is not just a list of celebrity CEOs. These exceptional men and women were hand-picked for the transformative impact they have had on business, commerce, and the way we live.”

Mr. Adelson has had a tremendous influence on the hospitality, gaming and tourism industries, not just here in Las Vegas, but around the world. If you feel like we do, cast your vote here to show your support.

Sands China: Yearend Thank You to Macao Team Members

December 31st, 2013 | Kenny Coyle

Sands China awards team members for outstanding services to the company at the first Because We Care awards ceremony Tuesday at The Venetian Macao.

Sands China awards team members for outstanding services to the company at the first Because We Care awards ceremony Tuesday at The Venetian Macao.

As Macao’s largest developer of integrated resorts, serving 52 million visitors in 2012, Sands China’s team members are its most valuable asset. On Tuesday we honored 67 outstanding team members in six categories for their dedication to the company. The ceremony inaugurated our Because We Care Team Member Awards, set to be held on a regular basis.

After receiving 380 nominations from team members, followed by nearly 14,000 votes from within the company, the winners were selected after many levels of assessment. All the winners, whether individuals or team, demonstrated the company’s core values: We Are Friendly; We Are Professional; We Are Active Listeners; and We Are One Team.

The six distinct award categories were the People’s Choice Award, the Impressive Performance Award, the Influential Service, the Best Leadership Award, the Exceptional Spirit Award, and the Outstanding Teamwork Award. Trophies and value pins were specially designed and given along with a cash prize of MOP20,000 for each winner. Friends and family members were invited to attend the ceremony, together with around 700 team members and management staff.

Sands China greatly appreciates the integrity and important role played by its employees, all of whom have made hospitality and service to others their life’s work. Their career choice, in fact, says a great deal about who they are as people; it speaks to their natural generosity and desire to serve others, which is the basis of our industry. Currently, Sands China has over 25,000 employees, almost half of whom have served our guests for over five consecutive years. This year alone around 1,000 Macao residents have been promoted. And our team members have chosen to do over 150,000 hours of training and development, so as to continually improve service. Additionally, to prepare around 1,000 local employees for managerial position for both existing and future projects, Sands China develops and delivers executive development, service leadership, talent development and language courses for them.

To our fantastic team, thank you for your hard work last year. We look forward to 2014 with you. Best wishes to all in the New Year!

Sands for Singapore: Closing 2013 on a High Note

December 30th, 2013 | Philicia Tan

We ended 2013 on a high, with meaningful events lined-up for Sands for Singapore, Marina Bay Sands’ corporate social responsibility programme. In the festive spirit of giving, we were able to show continued support to our beneficiaries, and bring a smile to their faces. Here’s a quick look back at the last few months of 2013.

On 27 November, we recognized the dedication and commitment of our 350 Team Member Volunteers with the first Sands for Singapore Volunteer Appreciation Tea 2013. President and Chief Executive Officer, George Tanasijevich and other senior executives who were present at this heart-warming event made the rounds to personally thank volunteers for their support throughout the year.

Marina Bay Sands

The Golden Temple in India made it. St. Mark’s Square in Venice, too. Nothing incredibly surprising there, perhaps. But our very own Marina Bay Sands in Singapore? One of the most visited Facebook sites in the world? Yes. Yes, it is.

Facebook just unveiled the 25 most popular locations of 2013, as part of its end of year review. Marina Bay Sands was the only integrated resort to make the list. It was also one of only six locations representing Asia.

We want to thank everyone who visited our Facebook pages over the last year, and we want to especially congratulate our team in Singapore for their spectacular and dynamic social media. You’ve raised the bar not just for our other resorts, but for the whole industry. Well done.

I’m excited to report that Las Vegas Sands (LVS) and Beckham Ventures just announced a partnership which will see one of the world’s most iconic men, David Beckham, join forces with LVS’s powerful integrated resort properties in Macao and Singapore.

As outlined at a press conference held in Macao today, the partnership will be based around the development of dining, retail and leisure concepts at Sands China Ltd. properties in Macao and Marina Bay Sands in Singapore.

“We have billions of dollars invested in our own global, iconic brands and we clearly understand the importance of growing and sustaining those brands over time. The odds are extremely high that a partnership with David Beckham will help us further those efforts and provide David with the same benefit,” said Michael Leven, our company’s president and chief operating officer. “We are very excited about the partnership and we fully expect it to grow in the years to come, especially as we aggressively explore opportunities to further expand our presence in Asia.”

David Beckham said, “The Sands team has created amazing resorts in Singapore and Macao. The scale, vision and caliber in all that they do is impressive. I am very excited to be working with them to develop a range of new business ideas in a part of the world that I love spending time in and is full of optimism and growth.”

“Here in Macao, Sands China has worked to not only transform the tourism industry by providing a diverse set of entertainment offerings, but also by seeking out active engagement with renowned brands and providing a unique experience to the people in and around this area of the world when they visit Cotai Strip Resorts Macao,” said Edward Tracy, president and chief executive officer of Sands China Ltd. “David Beckham’s well-known personal values and his endeavors in both business development and community outreach make a perfect match for our two brands to come together in a way which is sure to positively impact the Asian market.”

“We’ve been fortunate enough to have David partner with us recently at Marina Bay Sands and the energy and enthusiasm his presence provides is captivating. He was involved in our very successful Sands for Singapore community festival and his participation was inspiring to the young people he met with as well as the local charities which benefitted from his generosity. We greatly look forward to further promoting our partnership with David in a variety of exciting and creative ways at Marina Bay Sands,” said George Tanasijevich, the property’s president and chief executive officer.

Aiding in the Relief Effort

November 18th, 2013 | Ciara Matthews

Our thoughts are with those who have been affected by Super Typhoon Haiyan as well as our team members who have family and friends in the region. Las Vegas Sands is showing its support for the Philippines in a variety of ways following the devastation caused by this terrible disaster. Financial assistance is being provided to the recovery efforts there by both our entities in Asia, Sands China Ltd. in Macao and Marina Bay Sands in Singapore. Additionally, through our existing partnership with Clean the World, LVS is funding the packaging and shipment of 40,000 hygiene kits which contain soap, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, toothbrush, toothpaste and washcloths, to the area as a means of preventing the spread of hygiene-related illness.

The Las Vegas Review Journal recently reported on the tremendous success Las Vegas Sands is having in Macao where business is booming:

Macau is what drives Las Vegas Sands.

In the three months ended Sept. 30, the company’s four major Macau gaming divisions produced a 43 percent increase in       revenues and an 89 percent jump in profits compared with a year ago. The overall net revenues from Macau during the quarter — $2.34 billion — accounted for more than 65 percent of Las Vegas Sands’ companywide total of $3.57 billion.

And it will only continue to grow.
