Edward Tracy, president and chief executive officer of Sands China Ltd., presents the top award to Eduardo Zamora, champion of the Start Your Show 2012 – Shine Now!

This month nearly 100 Sands China team members took part in our company-wide talent show. The event was held at The Venetian Macao’s CotaiArena, where ten finalists from across the different resorts of Sands China Ltd. showcased their unique talents at Start Your Show 2012 – Shine Now!

Eduardo Zamora from the Food & Beverage department stood out from the crowd thanks to his breathtaking flair bartending and was crowned champion in this year’s company-wide talent show; Zamora also won the Audience Choice Award. The two awards allowed him to take home MOP 19,000 in cash and many other attractive prizes.

Presented by Sands China for the third consecutive year, the talent show attracted 97 team members to register for auditions, in the hopes of gaining a chance to showcase their talent on the CotaiArena stage, and ultimately becoming the competition’s champion.

“Sands China continues to review and launch different employee reward programmes with the objective of injecting fun into the workplace while offering team members a chance to showcase their unique talents,” said Antonio Ramirez, senior vice president of human resources for Venetian Macau Limited. “Start Your Show has been a great success over the last couple of years and we hope that more of our talented team members will join us on the stage in the future.”

Emerging from stiff competition at the nail-bitingly intense auditions, ten finalists–who came from a wide range of departments such as Housekeeping, Guest Services, and Food and Beverage from The Venetian Macao and SandsCotai Central–made it to Friday’s event, to showcase what they’ve got in front of close to 2,500 excited spectators.

With both group and individual performances, the ten acts were: Arabian belly dancing by Amoura, a five-girl dance group; pop music singing by Arvie de Villa; Chinese folk singing by Cao Hong (Peter); a band performance by the three-member Chronic Syndrome; flair bartending by Eduardo Zamora; a nunchaku performance by duo G-Dragon; singing and guitar playing by Luis Telo Mexia; hip hop dancing by Move-Ven, a four-girl two-boy group; a Chinese flute performance by Sam San Tai; and a folk dance by Yan Gong (Tommy).

Before the highly-anticipated show began, Sands China senior executives went on stage to encourage the ten finalists.

Each performing act garnered strong applause and cheers from the audience, who were fellow Sands China team members, contestants’ families and friends, as well as guests from other companies in the industry, showing support to the contestants with their presence.

Arvie de Villa receives an award from David Sisk, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Sands China Ltd., for his third place finish.

The talent show gave the contestants an opportunity to have their unique aptitudes recognized, letting them take pride in their talents. Team members were also able to get together with their colleagues, friends and families after work.

The judging panel consisted of Edward Tracy, president and chief executive officer of Sands China Ltd.; David Sisk, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Sands China Ltd.; Lawrence Tai, vice president of the board of directors of the Macau Gaming Industry Labourers Association; Wong Kuai Leng, vice director-general of the Macao Federation of Trade Unions; Angel Fong, local singer and first runner-up of The Singing Arena contest; and Rony Chan, television programme producer of Teledifusão de Macau (TDM).

Start Your Show was the second team member event held at the CotaiArena in less than five months’ time.  On April 2, Sands China held a Sands Cotai Central Opening Team Rally event, which was attended by 4,000 team members. Premiered in 2010, Start Your Show has attracted the participation of 130 team members showcasing a mix of talent in the auditions. Over 3,700 spectators have viewed the dazzling talent show at the CotaiArena in the past two years. It has now become a highly-popular show among team members every year and also provides a good opportunity to further strengthen the positive morale existing between Sands China and its employees.
