Catching The Spirit Of Giving

Marina Bay Sands Team Members have been giving back to the community in various ways. Recently, Team Members raised more than $12,000 for the local food distribution charity, Food from the Heart.

Later this month, two Team Members will shave their heads in support of Hair for Hope 2012.

Hair for Hope is run by the Children’s Cancer Foundation, a non-profit organization with the mission of improving the quality of life for children with cancer by enhancing their emotional, social and medical well-being. This is the campaign’s 10th consecutive year and the event will be held on 28-29 July 2012 at VivoCity, Singapore. Read the rest of this entry »

Three, It’s A Magic Number

MacauBusiness.Com: ‘Sands China Ltd chairman Sheldon Adelson said yesterday that the company is eyeing to start construction work on parcel three, in Cotai, in November. “We have already undertaken extensive design work on the project and plan to start construction by November,” Mr Adelson was quoted as saying in a company press release. Ever watch the Cooking Channel’s Unique Eats? Well, if you haven’t, the show  “spotlights America’s most exciting and revolutionary restaurants. It’s the first look and the last word in everything extreme in food today. The locations range from high-end dining rooms to casual neighborhood treasures, and even roving eateries with no permanent addresses. We seek out the most amazing examples of modern dining across America.” And this weekend their amazing example is found at The Palazzo. The show will spotlight chef Sam DeMarco’s wonderful restaurant: First Food & Bar.  Watch the program on Sunday from 7 to 8 pm PDT.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal published an article today about our Environmental Report and sustainability efforts. Below is an excerpt, but read the whole thing.

Las Vegas Sands began its sustainability efforts seven years ago, but this report is the company’s first compilation verified by an independent source. The study of the company’s green operations was verified by Amsterdam-based Global Reporting Initiative, a nonprofit organization that promotes sustainability.

“It is the most recognized standard for reporting globally, so that’s why we chose GRI,” said Katarina Tesarova, executive director of global sustainability for Las Vegas Sands.

In 2011, Las Vegas Sands spent $2.5 million on capital expenses to sustain environmental efforts. In addition, each property has a sustainability director to lead the charge. Read the rest of this entry »

In celebration of the gaming industry’s first-ever independently checked Environmental Report, Las Vegas Sands hosted top sustainability activists, hotel executives and journalists with a green conference at The Venetian and The Palazzo Las Vegas.

Yesterday, we live streamed the event. But here’s a recap. More than 100 guests–including the presidents from all our company’s resorts–attended the conference in the Veronese Ballroom to discuss and learn about Las Vegas Sands’ environmental achievements and pioneering green operations.

The audience was addressed by a number of industry leaders both inside and outside the company, including Michael A. Leven, president and chief operating officer of Las Vegas Sands; Norbert Riezler, senior vice president and chief procurement sustainability officer of Las Vegas Sands; Katarina Tesarova, executive director of global sustainability at Las Vegas Sands; Michael Luehrs, president of the Green Meetings Industry Council (GMIC); and Doug Taylor, executive pastry chef for Batali & Bastianich Hospitality.
