This year, Marina Bay Sands honored Earth Day by taking part in numerous activities to build awareness, educate and invigorate our Team Members, as well as members of the public. With our participation in Earth Day (22 April) and all the activities leading up to the event such as iLight Marina Bay 2012 (9 March to 1 April) and Earth Hour (31 March), we achieved a total of 31,638 kWh in energy savings with our participation.

All lightings at the Pre-function areas of L3, L4 & L5 of Sands Expo and Convention Center were dimmed down to 50%.

Over 75% of the SkyPark underbelly lighting was turned off.

In addition, from 23-27 April, Team Members participated in a five-day Recycling Drive at Marina Bay Sands in support of Earth Day. Various departments demonstrated their support with full participation. Our Housekeeping department recycled the highest volume of items (11,162 items), contributing to 25% of the total.

We managed to recycle in total:

  • 17,820 Liters of paper (equivalent to saving over 390 trees from being cut down)
  • 24,660 Liters of plastic bottles (equivalent to saving enough energy to power 140,000 light bulbs)
  • 5,280 Liters of cans (equivalent to saving enough energy to run a computer for 3 years)

The results of our integrated resort-wide initiatives and our Team member Recycling Drive demonstrate that collectively, our actions to do our part to help save the Earth. This was a tremendous success and I look forward similar events that help build the “Green” culture at Marina Bay Sands.
