If you’re thinking about investing in Las Vegas Sands Corp., or perhaps you’re just curious about our corporate culture, you’ll probably want to read The New York Times interview today with Michael Leven, our company’s President and Chief Operating Officer. Money quote:
Q. Do you remember the first time you became somebody’s boss?
A. It was the first time I had my own secretary; when I was a sales representative at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York. She was old enough to be my mother, so I had a lot of respect for her, and because I needed the help. What I’ve realized, which has always been my style, is that I manage people the way I want to be managed myself, so I treated her no differently than I’d want to be treated. And that’s the way I manage now, some 51 years later.

Bruce McQuain at Black Five: “Out here in Las Vegas amidst the glamor, glitter and luxury, it is easy to lose sight of what the organization who organizes this event does for our military families on a daily basis. This is like a shining star but represents only one point in a constellation of incredible things the Armed Forces Foundation does to support our men and women in uniform. Note I said ‘military families’ above. That’s what’s truly notable about the AFF. It is focused on the whole – the entire family. And as the title denotes, they go about their business much like our special operators – quietly and professionally…. What takes place outside the media spotlight on a daily basis is military families dealing with the impact of a loved one who has been wounded and/or incapacitated. What AFF has dedicated itself too is trying to lessen that impact and enable the families to be together to deal with their wounded loved one without the financial stress that imposes.”

The title of this post is the name of the great blog by Kristle Helmuth. She’s one of the bloggers staying with us in Las Vegas in order to write about our Salute Our Troops celebration. In her first post, she published a number of terrific photos from the opening ceremony. She also wrote:
“We all came together as a community of supporters and together I’m sure we shed enough tears to supply all of the water falls at The Palazzo/The Venetian with water to last AT LEAST the week, talk about a contribution to The Palazzo/The Ventian’s continued efforts to remain the largest “Green” building in the WORLD. I’m pretty sure I was blubbering like a little baby. There is nothing closer to my heart than honoring our Nation’s Wounded Veterans, and I was not alone.”
Thank you, Kirstle!
